The capability to operate in any weather condition enables precise ordnance delivery, even in situations where visual bombardment is not possible.
The F-16 FigҺting Falcon’s designSelected for the design of the F-16 were cutting-edge aerospace technologies and dependable systems that had been demonstrated in the F-15 and F-111. The single-seat F-16A made its maiden flight in December 1976. The initial operational F-16A was delivered to the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, in January 1979.

An initial order of 348 F-16s was placed between these nations and the United States in support of their air forces. The locations of the final airframe assembly facilities were the Netherlands and Belgium. The F-16s of the consortium are constructed using components produced in each of the five countries. 1991 saw the deployment of USAF F-16 multirole fighters to the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Desert Storm; these aircraft flew the most sorties of any aircraft. In addition to airfields and military production facilities, these aircraft targeted locations for Scud missiles.
USAF F-16 figҺting falcon multirole fighters performed a multitude of missions during Operation Allied Force, including оffensive counterair, defensive counterair, close air support, and forward air controller missions. The F-16 figҺting falcon has been an integral part of the combat forces engaged in the Global Wаr on Terror since September 11, 2001. Thousands of sorties have been completed in support of operations Noble Eagle (Homeland Defense), Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, and Iraqi Freedom.
