The Power of Germany’s Skynex Air Defense System

Skynex is a short-range air defense system developed by Rheinmetall Group and launched in 2021.

The system is capable of preventing attacks by aircraft, cruise missiles, tactical UAVs, air-to-ground missiles as well as mortars and rockets at distances of up to 4km.

Skynex is mounted on a truck chassis. The basic configuration of this system includes the Skymaster combat management system, Oerlikon anti-aircraft artillery, X-TAR3D medium-range radar and 4 automatic artillery platforms.

Skynex’s weapons system includes Oerlikon Mk3 automatic gu𝚗s, Oerlikon GDF 009 TREO double-barreled anti-aircraft gu𝚗s, surface-to-air missiles and active and passive electronic warfare means.

The Oerlikon Mk3 main gu𝚗 uses 35mm Ahead bullets, a range of 4km, a rate of fire of 1,000 rounds/minute, a maximum range of 3.5km for aerial targets and about 5km for targets on the ground. The cannоn’s sensor is integrated with tracking radar, infrared camera as well as laser rangefinder, the gu𝚗 can automatically track and аttаck targets.

Skynex can use many different types of air-to-air missiles such as ROSAM (6km range) or AIM-9X Sidewinder (35km range). X-TAR3D radar can detect, track and classify aerial targets within a range of 20-50km.

.

According to Army Recognition, the Skynex air defense system can operate independently or be integrated into a larger air defense network. Possessing a modular design, Skynex can be easily upgraded and adapted to any situation.

With these features, Skynex can also be used to protect important military and civil infrastructure such as airports, military bases, ports, or nucleаr power plants from air strikes. , in all weather conditions, day and night.
